Printed magazine and newspaper adverts can still play an important part of an advertising campaign. but if you are going to invest in this it is vital that you make sure the ad is going to get noticed and that your call to action is clear and enticing. A good design will increase the chance you will grab the viewers attention and stand out from the clutter, but if the message (image and copy) is not relevant and well crafted the viewer may not turn observation into action.
